I stayed in the BW Hitching Post Inn, no rooms face the UP but a few face the BNSF you would be better off looking from the hallway. They have a good place to eat but the hotel is spread out and you have to walk a long way to the lobby. It's a Stone Throw away from where the BNSF (ex-BN) crosses the UP and has a lot of trains.

Most south facing (even numbered) second floor rooms have a view. Entrance canopy roof in center blocks complete panning view of UP and makes east wing better for viewing BNSF. Best rooms are away from the center entrance canopy and away from false walls around the end entrances which partially block view from end rooms, such as room 238. Ask for east wing (smoking) rooms 236 then 234 to view UP & BNSF, or west wing (non-smoking) rooms 206 then 208 to view UP & some BNSF.

Located east of Cheyenne just off of I-80, the spaces at the back offer wide open views and sounds of the UP as it tackles Archer Hill eastbound, about 1/2 mile to the north of the campground. Westbound trains are pretty silent as they coast down the hill. Road traffic noise is high due to the proximity of I-80. Also, Cheyenne is creeping up on the site as new warehousing has sprung up to the north and west of the campground.

The Motel 6 is a good spot, the tracks from the old C&S are almost right over the motel. You just hope that there aren't any flat spots on the wheels cause it will shake the room.

I have recently stayed at the Super 8 Motel in Cheyenne. I found it to be of good quality and cleanliness, good staff and a filling complimentary continental breakfast.

East facing 2nd floor rooms offer limited views of Union Pacific's east-west 4-track mainline, however watching UP may be better from the lobby or lawn. West facing rooms offer good view of BNSF but traffic on the former C&S line to Denver is very limited.
