I stayed at the Ramada Inn in Charleston, West Virginia while heading west. The hotel, as is the Wingate next door, is adjacent to the CSX, ex-C&O mainline thought West Virginia. A street separates the hotel from the tracks, and the street makes a good train watching location also - i.e. no fence. We had a third floor room on the east side (ask for a room towards the south end of the building), which gave a very good view of westbounds approaching and eastbounds going away. And I assume that on the other side, it would be the reverse. However, CSX may park freight cars on a siding adjacent to the mainline. The Wingate should have the same window arrangement. There are a couple of restaurants nearly, and there is a small CSX engine facility about 3 blocks west of the hotel, easy walk, or ride.

So the rating would be "T" for trackside, "B" for a very good view; might even be an "A" from the top floor, and the price range with an "Interstate Discount Coupon" is a "2," might be a "3" without the coupon.
