Sportsmen's Hotel
Route 120
Renovo, PA.

From a LOCAL:dori@*******.net: I have lived in Renovo for 20 years, and am quite
familiar with the Hotel... It was originally a bar and restaurant. Cindy Coleman, the
owner, is quite friendly to Railfanners. IT is true that there are rooms reserved for
train crews, but there are usually other rooms available, except during hunting season,
first weekend of fishing season, and during our "Flaming Foliage Festival", the second
weekend in October, annually. The rooms go for $50, double occupancy, and are quite nice.
The food in the restaurant is super, and there is a limited menu available 24 hours a day
to hotel guests. Much of the food is home made. Some tables in the restaurant also have
a view of the tracks, which are directly across the road. Kids are always welcome, and
there is an abundance of activity for the outdoorsperson in the area, in addition to the
Pennsylvania Elk herd, which is located about 10 miles north in Keating.

Trains are sporadic at times, one day you see 8, the next 2. But the power we have seen
as of late is spectacular. Everything from NS (naturally), to Montana Rail Link, and
more than our fair share of CN and CP. Photo ops are plentiful, and the fall makes for
some outstanding photos (Check out the 2000 NS calendar. There is a pic from Driftwood,
which is about 30 miles from the hotel). Reservations are appreciated, and a good idea,
but not essential.

If the hotel is full, there is "Yesterdays", which IS the former PRR-owned YMCA, located
on 3rd Street in Renovo. Cindy also owns that facility, and the accommodations are
equivalent. The trains do not stop there, however, as it is about 2 miles north of the
Sportsman's.

From: Fred Leer: Renovo Information (Sportsmans Hotel)
Number of trains can vary from day to day but some of the more regularly scheduled
(CONRAIL DAYS) train symbols are: ALCN, CNAL, ALBU, BUAL, BUPI, PIBU, PIOI-B,
OIPI-B, UHP (International Paper log train), plus coal extras to/from various points in
NY state and the connection with the RJ Corman RR at CP Keating and the
Pittsburg & Shawmut at CP Driftwood. In addition, the area has absolutely
spectacular mountain scenery.
