the Cassandra Railroad Overlook Motel does NOT have a view of the tracks from the rooms.
The tracks are located less than a 1/4 mile away at the overlook, however. And the
overlook is easily accessed from the motel. I would recommend this motel to railfans.
VERY VERY clean - and comfortable with plenty of room. The gentleman who runs the motel
is quite courteous and friendly. The location is also close to Gallitzen Tunnels,
Cresson, and Horseshoe Curve, as well as Altoona and Hollidaysburg. I spent New Year's Eve
and New Years Day evening there and was happy with the quarters. Price was right, too,
$35 plus tax per night, for one person, at least for the winter season when I was there
(2002 into 2003). The hotel has a railfan store, called D's Quick Stop, attached to it.
The store contains various railroad memoribilia displays and information on railfanning in
the PA area. T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and other railfan items are available for sale.
The owner has a guest book and invites all railfans to sign it. I enjoyed looking at the
guestbook to see where all the visiting railfans had traveled from to check out the
