The Best Western in Fort Scott, Kansas. If you are a railfan ask for a room facing East on the
upper level. The motel is around 500 feet from the BNSF main line on the Springfield Division,
Fort Scott Subdivision. Trains come in from Springfield, Missouri and points east and from
Tulsa, Oklahoma and points south. At the present time (May 27, 2004) there is on the average
of 30 train per day with over half being 125 car average coal trains. You are within walking
distance (3 block) from the yards where you can get up close to the trains when there is a
crew change. The only problem that I see is that the trains may keep a person awake all night
