I was out in Chicago recently and stayed at an Econo Lodge in Chesterton, IN (near Porter). When I checked into the motel I had no idea that it was trackside. The CSX line from Michigan passes by behind the motel, I had a pretty good view from the second floor.
The former NYC main and another line are also nearby (but not visible from the motel), and the South Shore and B&O main are also only a few miles away. Very neat place! It's located on route 49, on the outskirts of Chesterton.
