Baymont Inn

567 E Highway 38
Rochelle, IL 61068
815-562-9530

Location Rating: R-D-x

It is next to the Super 8 and about 5 minutes from the Rail Park. Mention being a railfan and they will put you on the second floor facing the tracks. Although you can see the trains, field glasses would be helpful. Typical accomodations for a Baymont. Helpful front desk staff.

The Baymont (ex-Amerihost) and Super 8 are not actually at trackside, but their south facing second floor rooms have a good panoramic view of Union Pacific's very busy Geneva subdivision (160.040), which is about one half mile to the south, and BNSF's busy Aurora subdivision (161.160), which is further to the south. In one or the other, you should be able to find the accommodations you need (smoking/non-smoking, 1 bed/2 beds) on the second floor facing south. Be sure to mention the Rochelle Railroad Park and ask for the railfan's discount.

Super 8

601 E Highway 38
Rochelle, IL 61068

Location Rating: R-D-x

Ask for a room on the south side. Both main lines of BNSF and UP are visible across the fields as they approach the famous diamond in Rochelle, site of Rochelle Railroad Park. Train frequency is several an hour, 24 hours a day. Far enough from the tracks (1/2 mile or more, but unobstructed view, at least in winter) to keep from disturbing sleep, but close enough to tell what kind of trains are going by (but not loco numbers, unless you bring binoculars). Only 3-5 minutes from the diamond at Rochelle.
