Location Rating: T-B-2

The AmericInn Motel overlooks Norfolk Southern's Indian River Secondary. Between the motel is the parking lot and Corn Crib Road. All rooms on the north side of the building have a clear view on the tracks.

The top photo showing the motel was taken from an Amtrak coach while riding the "2005 Rails to the Fair" excursion from Harrington to Georgetown, DE and return. The bottom photo shows the view of the train and tracks from a ground floor room.

Traffic on this line is light, with just 3 to 4 trains a day, showing up at almost any time. Just to the left of then motel is US 13, a busy 4-lane highway. All east/southbound trains will slow for this crossing and will be heavy on the horn, so you will have plenty of warning. They will also report clear of "Ring", the Harrington yard limits about 1/4 mile east. North/westbound trains will contact the Harrington Yardmaster for clearance into the yard limits, plus they blow for a crossing about 3/4 of a mile east.

Crews will talk to the NS Port Road Dispatcher and the Harrington Yardmaster on 160.800 or 161.070. They will also talk on these channels when making up a train in the yard. Lodging in this area is limited and with the success of the Midway Slots at the Delaware State Fairgrounds just across US 13, rooms may fill up fast. When making reservations, make sure to ask for an even number room, as they are the ones to face the tracks.
