The railroad is grade-separated so book a room in the back and on at least the 3rd or 4th floor. For the diehard railfans, there was a specific room (in the corner opposite 6th Street) that permitted a view of a signal bridge then located about a mile or so away from the hotel.

The branch to the Union Station tunnel splits to the North just East of this location. CSX's mainline to the east crosses the Annacostia River bridge into Maryland. To the west the mainline crosses the Potomac River bridge into Virginia towards the former Potomac Yards site.

This location sits right next to Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, just east of the Ivy City Shops where CSX's Capital Subdivision to Baltimore runs parallel to Amtrak. The lines split about 100 yards West of the hotel and CSX is visable across the berm.

Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel, floors 3 and 4 would offer the best view. If too low you can not see CSX, if too high, you are looking straight down on Amtrak.
