Definitely a few rooms with very good view - on the THIRD floor! These are high above the cinder block wall. Pick a room at west end of this highest floor - you'll face either north or south, which is the same direction the tracks run - right next to the western boundary. Your view is at somewhat of a 90-degree angle, but wide open with plenty of trees as distant backdrop. The U.P. Santa Barbara Division may not be a hotbed of train activity, but this is a case of quality over quantity. I agree with the earlier report, except try the 3rd Floor, not 2nd Floor.

There is a Holiday Inn Express that is right adjacent to the UP tracks.  The ends of the hotel facing the tracks have no windows (foolish designers) but from the looks of it, almost all rooms on the second floor will have views north or south down the tracks.  It is located on Riverside Drive, just off the RT 46 interchange of 101 in Paso Robles.

Train runs 100 yards west of Motel 6 (if not farther), all views from westward facing rooms are heavily obscured by thick trees, etc. - EXCEPT Room 224! From that room only, you have a nice long narrow shot of the tracks in distance. Somewhat hemmed in by trees, but a pretty shot. A good choice for those who prefer their train roar at a distance - IF you can get Room 224.
